There is a gold camera displayed in the lunar diorama at Space Center Houston called a Far Ultraviolet Camera/Spectrograph. The original camera was set up on the moon during Apollo 16 by John Young to take UV photos of the Earth. According to the Smithsonian, the original was left on the lunar surface and its backup camera is at the National Air and Space Museum. Does anyone have information on the history of the camera displayed at Space Center Houston? The Smithsonian is only aware of the Apollo 16 camera, its backup plus a decommission camera (black in color) at the Naval Research Laboratory. Some information online suggests it may have been used at JSC for familiarization testing and training prior to the launch of Apollo 16. Could it have also been used for testing in the vacuum chambers? | |
