NASA has long had a program for relinquishing custody of artifacts to museums, schools, etc. Most of these are relatively common items like astronaut food and spare shuttle tile pieces, but some interesting rare items have become available through the General Services Administration website.

Since I teach at a school with a thousand students, several hundred of whom learn about the space program every year, I decided to register and see if we had a shot at something that would help students better connect with what we teach.

After several steps over several months, taking hours of work online by me and my poor principal, we were awarded what was described (with no photos) as a "space suit arm."

I would have been happy with anything, but what arrived in the mail last week seems to be pretty special. They are vintage ILC parts that appear to be from Apollo-era (Edit: or probably not!) space suits.

Below I have posted pictures showing different views, including of the ID tags inside them. I would greatly appreciate any details you could provide about them, such as how and when they were used. (You'll notice little yellow labels numbering the artifacts #1-4.) It would be really great if you can point me towards any online photos or diagrams showing close-ups of them.

And now, what appears to be a boot covering.

Might I suggest you contact Bill Ayrey at ILC Dover. As well as being a Quality Inspection Manager he is also the company historian. I'm sure they are shuttle era items from the late 70s early 80s.

The boot incidentally appears to be inside out. Nice kit.

All times are CT (US)
