I'm relatively new to this — appreciate all the great information on this site! I purchased an Atlantis/STS-81 blanket. I have the part and serial number (part V070-363143-009, serial A03591). Is it possible to track down where this was actually used/located? Thanks! |

I've been looking through the Kennedy Media Gallery and ran across these pics of the FRCS: 1, 2. I've been curious to identify a ballpark location of where this blanket was used and this seems a likely candidate. Thoughts from the experts here? Thanks! |

I can't help you with the blanket's location but those photos are amazing. I've never seen them before. |

Just closing the loop on this. Stumbled upon this document referencing FRCS blankets V070-36xxxx which seems to confirm location. |

I am looking for help identifying my thermal heat protection cover (TCS Blanket). There is stamped the Serial number on it: VO70_362163-009 and OCN-03955-AM3698 I could not find anything online except for thermal tiles. What I know, so far, is: VO means Vehicle/Orbiter and I expect the 3XXXX is for the fuselage. Thank you!Editor's note: Threads merged. |

It is V0 and not VO and it doesn't mean those words. They are just letters and numbers in Rockwell's drawing system. |

Jim, I have been under the impression it is VO70. I have seen other shuttle Orbiter drawings starting with VL70 and VT70. So the pattern for the Orbiter suggests two letters followed by 70-, followed by 6 numbers. Looking at drawings themselves it does look like it could be V070. If it is V070 then I have been spreading misinformation. |

Quoting a NASA fact sheet for educators: The first two elements of the serial number are letters 'VT' or 'VO'. The 'V' is for Vehicle, the 'O' is orbiter. |

I stand corrected. Some of my items have sloppy handwriting. |

"VO" has always been Vehicle Orbiter and/or Orbiter Vehicle as I often refer to it as, even going back to the late 1970s. I am thinking "VT" refers to Vehicle Test or something similar. I'll check further on it. |

Thank you Ken. Reason I am inquiring is I have a large tile that begins with 'VT'. And thanks Robert for posting the link with the map of tile locations. I now know another tile I have was intended for the Vertical Stabilizer area. |
