Does anyone know where I can find a good photo or illustration of the vent pad that goes behind the astronaut's head in the pressure helmet (bubble) for the shuttle EMU suit?

The new pad is a plastic version of the original Apollo aluminum assembly and, from what I understand, doesn't have the padded bit — just the shell to distribute oxygen flow. I'm especially interested in images that show the back of the pad with the little standoff 'pimples' along the outer edge of the shell. Any thoughts?

With the ongoing troubleshooting work to try to correct for the water leak that cut Luca Parmitano's July 16 spacewalk short has come a series of photos that show inspections inside the helmet.

Unfortunately, the best of them (as far as I can tell) is focused on the visor.

That said, there has been video sent down from the station with clearer views.

Robert, thank you so much for the info - not so 'up to speed' on the later suits. It looks like the LEVA and pressure helmet are a single unit, so I think the chances of finding a photo of what goes on behind the vent pad are zero.

Anyone got the metal Apollo version I can borrow to take accurate measurements?

All times are CT (US)
