A collectSPACE reader is seeking information about this acrylic-embedded North American Rockwell medallion that includes metal flown on the Apollo 8 mission.
A 1970 letter than accompanied this specific medallion attests that it is "made from a section of the first lunar module [sic] to circle the moon with astronauts aboard. The mission was Apollo 8...".
The letter, which is on North American Rockwell letterhead, is signed by Williad Rockwell.
Setting aside the error of "lunar module" for command module, does anyone know the history of this medallion? How many were minted and/or distributed?

Have one as well. Minted by The Franklin Mint for North American Rockwell in 1969, the symbols are engraved on the edge.
