I recently bought this medallion that was flown on STS-134 and presented by the then-NASA Administrator Charles Bolden Jr. This is the first time that I have seen this medallion and liked that the entire medallion was flown instead of only containing metal that was flown. It came with the blue felt presentation box and the mirrored-finish plate states that: This NASA Administrator medallion was flown aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavour to the International Space Station during STS-134, May 16 to June 1, 2011, traveling 6.5 million miles in 4,671 orbits of Earth. I looked at the Official Flight Kit (OFK) for STS-134 and found two references to medallions. One was inventory No. 5H for 2 NASA Seal Medallions (1 Silver and 1 Bronze) for Agency Presentation and the other, inventory No. 28 in the Addendum OFK, for 60 NASA Medallions for Agency Presentation. I think that this medallion is one of the 60 flown in the Addendum OFK.I’m interested in knowing if any other collectSPACE member has one of these medallions or can provide any additional information about them such as who they were given to and whether similar medallions were flown on the final flights of Discovery and Atlantis. | |
