The 2018 Niue $2 (New Zealand Mint) space shuttle coin with flown insulation just went up on eBay, but can also be found elsewhere (cheaper).

Niue also appears to have issued (through the Mint of Poland) Mars (2017), Mercury (2016) and Moon (2015) versions that contain meteorite fragments. Though the 2019 version to come looks interesting using the Statue of Liberty copper, also flown in space.

This is the third release in the space (Solar System) series celebrating the moon landing in 1969, this time depicting the shuttle above the moon. Inside the capsule, a genuine piece of space flown insulation taken from the payload bay area of the orbiter Discovery and flown on mission STS-85.

A stunning colorized proof obverse, with the stars left intentionally untreated so the silver shines through. The reverse has radial lines and shows the $2 New Zealand Dollars denomination issued by Niue and the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II.

Coin arrives in a black presentation box, with certificate of authenticity.

The final release in 2019 will contain copper from the Statue of Liberty restoration which was also flown in space!

Thanks Tim! Usually the New Zealand Mint puts out a lot of collector coins, especially Disney and Star Wars.

Got the space shuttle coin today, looks better in person than pictures. Pretty heavy coin, and I like the space shuttle design, really sparkles.

The fourth coin in the series will be the Statue of Liberty, which will have a piece of flown Statue of Liberty copper from the 1985 flight on shuttle space Discovery.

APMEX has the flown Statue of Liberty coins for $79.99.

Like the design on the 2019 Niue 1 oz Silver 50th Anniversary Moon Landing Diamonds coin better... oh well.
