Winco Intl. has produced a medallion commemorating the 45th anniversary of the Apollo 16 mission.
Apollo 16 was the fifth mission to land men on the moon and return them safely to Earth. Considered by many to be one of the high points of space exploration, Apollo 16 was one of the most ambitious scientific expeditions ever!

Since the 1980s, Winco International has supplied NASA and the aerospace industry with their official medallions, lapel pins, patches and frame editions. This medallion was developed by Winco and minted with Apollo command module parts that flew to the moon.

Production is limited to 1,972 pieces.

The medallion is now available from Winco product retailers, including Farthest Reaches, The Space Store and on eBay.

Are there two versions of this medallion, colorized and bronze? Also, was the metal flown from the Apollo 16 command module in both medallions?

I believe there is only the bronze. The color illustration is only to show the design.

And like Winco's other Apollo medallions, the command module metal is from an unspecified mission, per NASA's desires.

Thanks Robert, the reason I ask is that The Space Store ad states that the metal was from the Apollo 16 command module.

I may be mistaken, but I believe that is an error on The Space Store's part. The Winco Certificate of Authenticity only states (as above):
This medallion was developed by Winco and minted with Apollo command module parts that flew to the moon.

I can't seem to be able to track all those medallions. Is the Apollo 16 45th anniversary the only (and first) medallion in this series (45th anniversary)? There were the Apollo at 40 medallions.

All times are CT (US)
