Here is a look at the medallion created for the opening of Independence Plaza at Space Center Houston. The 2.5-inch medal was presented to VIPs and sponsors at a "launch" reception on Jan. 22, 2016.

The reverse of the medal notes that it was "minted with NASA 905 and space shuttle flown metal."

WOW, how did I miss this post.

A new flown metal to look for. Anyone know where I might get a couple of these for my collection?

Winco International produced this medallion. Unfortunately, we are not authorized to offer these to any others.

The good news is, we are now producing a different NASA 905/Independence medallion for public sale that will also be minted with flown NASA 905 metal and flown Space Shuttle metal.

Like our recent packaged Apollo 11 45th Anniversary medallion, this medallion will also have a similar card with a COA on the reverse. This 1.75" official medallion will be shipped in approximately five weeks to the Space Trader store at Space Center Houston (the only other locations that are authorized to order these are those that exhibit space shuttles). Winco will not be able to directly offer these, but I'm sure orders can be placed with the store at Space Center Houston.

The front side will be almost the same as its larger brother. The back side will feature terrific new art that was created by Blake Dumesnil (a NASA award winning artist and cS member).

The NASA 905/Independence Plaza medallions are now for sale by Space Center Houston at The Space Trader gift shop. They are product no. 759689017051 and retail for $19.99 each.

The medallions are not (at present) available for order online, but you can find the contact information for the shop on The Space Trader website.

Just ordered mine. She wasn't aware about the medals at first. Expect that will change. Can't wait to get them.

Out of curiosity, how many of the VIP medallions were minted?

Everything's gone quiet on these. Does anyone know if these are available online now?

Space Center Houston's Space Trader gift shop, the retail source of these, has not added them to their website, but they are available for sale in the shop. You might email them, if calling is not an option.

There is now a subtle variant of these medallions available.

The Johnson Space Center exchange shops are selling a version that replaces the mention of Space Center Houston with "Johnson Space Center" on the front, replaces the Space Center Houston logo with the NASA insignia (meatball) on the reverse and moves "Delivering the Legacy" from the outer to inner border to include "Official Johnson Space Center Commemorative."

These medallions are not listed online but you should be able to call or email to place an order (product no. 777770 [$9.95 each]).

I just called the store and was told that both these and the ISS 50 coins will be up on the online shop tomorrow.

The medallion is now on their website.

(The earlier shipping glitch seems to be fixed. I've just placed an order now.)
