I have the Apollo 11 30th anniversary coin with the certificate in the original coin flap, but noticed that the coin's edge to be tarnishing.

Should I put the coin in an air-tite capsule to prevent further tarnishing? Thanks!

As of in all things, that depends. As a coin collector of 25 years, I'm fairly familiar with the numismatic market.

By the way, what you have is a medallion, NOT a coin. A coin by definition is a legal tender object, such as a Washington quarter.

One person's tarnish is another person's toning. A NICELY toned coin can bring you MANY multiples of "book value" for the given coin. On the other hand, an ugly toned coin will detract from the "book value." If you feel that your medallion is toning nicely, then let it continue to do so. If you think that the tarnish is ugly then an AirTite or an InterceptShield or something of that sort would be helpful.

Basically heat and moisture will increase the tarnishing/toning of your medallion, so if you don't like the tarnish then put the medallion in a cool dry place or store it with some sort of desiccant.

Thanks for the advice I really appreciate it! I haven't really considered how toning could not necessarily be a bad thing.
