How many of the Port Canaveral medallions were produced for the STS-6, STS-41D and STS-51J maiden flights? |

John, About 10,000 were produced from the Canaveral Port Authority for STS-1/Columbia, and I believe, probably about the same-type number quantities for the maiden shuttle flights of Challenger, Discovery, Atlantis and Endeavour. I'll find out more later. |

I'm a proud owner of two Port Canaveral coins and pins (shuttle with the anchor) that arrived today in the mail. The coins, gold tone as the other "made with expended metal" have the Port Canaveral "C" with waves insignia on one side and nothing on the other. Is this part of the set as well as the pin (which has been featured when discussing these coins)? Is it made from blended metal as the other maiden launch coins? I know there's the one with the shuttle and anchor. |

There are three basic reverse styles. The anchor (gold and silver versions), the ship (gold), the C and wave (gold). Also the Columbia medal was also made with writing on the reverse. Here is the info I gathered. These were sold individually and as sets and are made with material from the launch or launch pad of the maiden flight of the specific shuttle. Sets one and two are eight medals each, seven of the maiden flights and a center piece (an anchor). Each of the seven have a reverse that matches the center piece (unknown if the center piece contains blended metal). Set three is only five medals, four maiden flight and one center piece (cruise ship). Set four appears to the only set made strictly for displaying as the reverse sides are blank with the center piece (what I call the Port Canaveral Seaport) and the last is only one medal of the maiden flight of Columbia, which has writing on the reverse. |

Tim, that's great and as always thanks! Looks like this one is a Set 4 coin. I have the other maiden flight coins, but will have to check the reverse to see what set it is from the information you provided. |

Tim, I just got a framed Canaveral Port Authority (gold anchor) that looks just like yours, except it is a six coin set (Columbia Challenger, Discovery, Atlantis, Skynet and the anchor with shuttle on top that says under "Central Florida's Seaport."Have you seen this one before? |

I think there's at least three "sets" based on coloring of the medallion, Port Canaveral reverse with shuttle and anchor; and Port Canaveral reverse with cruise ship. Tim can verify the number of complete sets or series. You can see the possibilities of different sets or series in this photo of my medallions.Although, I haven't seen complete sets that includes the "Port Canaveral Smooth Sailing All The Way" "C" with blank reverse. I'm not sure if that's part of the set and which set/series. I've also include the anchor with shuttle pin that's featured on some of the reverse medallions. |

Yes, I have seen various configurations of displays. I can think of two variations. Usually five or eight medals in a circle pattern also seen a two parallel column version. I do not know if all these were official displays or someone made them up. |

Tim, thanks for the link! I've never seen the Port Authority medallion. Do both the "C" and Port Authority contain blended metal from boosters or other flown metal? |

Thanks Tim. Mine is the exact same white background and same lettering, just two vertical columns of three each not a circle. |

I was able to find two other displays. Both are wooden plaques, but I think that the number of medallions could correspond to the other displays with the same number of medallions. I'm confirming with the seller, but this is the first silver Port Canaveral medallion. I'm wondering if it contains blended metal like the golden versions. |
