One thing I notice on this (and other) boards is that many people do not realize the difference between coins and medals/medallions etc. and use the terms interchangeably.

Coins and medals/medallions can look almost the same, but there is a BIG legal difference:

  • Coins are issued by a government and have a denomination, e.g. 25ยข for a quarter etc. They are money.

  • Medals/medallions have no denomination. They are not money.
There are lots of flown medals/medallions out there. There are relatively few flown coins.
