Forgive me, if this is already posted and being discussed here. Would one of our Washington, DC area friends take a moment....visit the US Mint.gov website, and then CALL the mint and straighten them out on the names of Lunar Modules ??? Let me put the link here and you can see it for themselves, what they have done....they are calling ALL Lunar Modules "Spiders" in their discussion.....not just Apollo 9's lunar module. I would like to see it corrected for the record.....but feel that if I email them the story, they will just ignore it. THANKS !Gene Bella South Bend http://www.usmint.gov/kids/index.cfm?fileContents=coinnews/cotm/cotm0304.cfm |

Reading the "The U.S. Mint's Site for Kids", it appears that while they never use the term "Lunar Module" they are only writing about the Apollo 9 mission given its anniversary this month. The site is aimed at children, so their use of "Spider" is also understandable; which sounds "cooler" to your inner child -- Lunar Module or Spider? They are also in good company. The fifth episode of "From The Earth To The Moon" dedicated to the development of the LM was also simply titled "Spider". So I am not sure if their omission of LM is not on purpose. If I were writing for the same target audience, I might have done the same... | |
