STS-101 Olympic Pin

STS-101, launched May 19, 2000, was the 98th launch of the Space Shuttle (the 21st for orbiter Atlantis) and the fourth International Space Station assembly mission. This flight also marked the first use of the orbiter's new glass cockpit ~~ 11 new full-color, flat-panel display screens replacing 32 gauges and electromechanical displays and four cathode-ray tube displays.

The embedded lapel pin, which features the outline of the orbiter and a design incorporating a stylized Olympic torch, was flown aboard Atlantis on behalf of the committee working to bring the Olympics to Houston, Texas in 2012. (New York was selected over Houston as host city.)
