Pneumatic (P-) Tube

Location: Mission Control Center
Comment: In 1996, the original Mission Control Center was
designated a national landmark.

This p-tube was removed from Apollo Mission Control and painted by EECOM Sy Liebergot for presentation to White Flight Eugene Kranz at the splashdown party for the Apollo Soyuz Test Project on August 20, 1975 at the Dickinson, Texas-based Hofbraugarten restaurant. P-tubes were used in Mission Control to send messages (and sometimes, the occasional snack) between the controller consoles and the staff support rooms. Though Kranz was not present at the party to accept this tube, it was later added to his personal collection, where it remained until it was sold to raise funds for Kranz's church building fund. Kranz inscribed the tube's body as "from my personal collection" nearby his signature.
