Rehydratable Food and Beverage

Mission: Apollo   Crew: N/A
Comment: The grape drink may have flown on Apollo 14.

These packages of Chicken With Gravy and Grape Drink are examples of the rehydratable menu items that Apollo astronauts consumed during their missions. Foods were rehydrated with the use of a water gun nozzle that fit into the packages. Astronauts selected the amount of water desired and the nozzle shot it into the package to prevent spills. The rehydratable food packages allowed astronauts to "stir" externally, mixing in the water. When ready to eat, the astronaut removed the top of the package and ate the item normally as one did on Earth.
