Has anybody read the book NASA Range Rats by Edward Ehrenspeck?I see it has positive reviews on Amazon, but was wondering what the experts here on collectSPACE think of it. NASA Range Rats: The True Beginnings by Edward Ehrenspeck with D.A. Hepker The beginnings of NASA, the U.S. space program, are inexorably tied to the grim origin of the V-2 rocket. At the end of the second World War, the space race began between the U.S. and Russia to retrieve the V-2 rockets and engineers from Germany and begin establishing their own rocket and space programs. The Air Force started the missile testing project prior to NASA which required hiring thousands of employees, many of which were soon headed to Cape Canaveral. My story presented in this space book describes what life was like for most of the men and women who loved their country and were dedicated to advancing America in the development of the space race after World War 2. Many of these worked and lived in conditions sometimes described as primitive. All the sacrifices made by these great workers laid the foundation for where the U.S. space program is today. A thrilling space race book that will help you understand the foundations of the NASA space program. - Paperback, 136 pages
- Independently published (August 1, 2022)

I just finished it and loved it! A great perspective on the little-known "Range Rats" and the horrendous conditions they endured (like errant missile parts falling down around them, panthers, rattlesnakes, and blankets of mosquitoes) as they did their job. And a great perspective on Cape Canaveral back in its' uber-primitive days of the 1950's. |
