The American Astronautical Society's History Committee has announced the publication of the English-language translation of Hermann Oberth’s seminal work, Die Rakete zu den Planetenräumen (The Rocket Into Planetary Space) (1925, Oldenbourg) by de Gruyter Oldenbourg. De Gruyter Oldenbourg reissued the original German-language edition in April 2014. For all being interested in astronautics, this translation of Hermann Oberth's classic work is a truly historic event. Readers will be impressed with this extraordinary pioneer and his incredible achievement. In a relatively short work of 1923, Hermann Oberth laid down the mathematical laws governing rocketry and spaceflight, and he offered practical design considerations based on those laws. - Hardcover, 98 pages
- de Gruyter, September 2014
- ISBN: 978-3-11-036756-0
Dr. Trevor Sorensen led the translation and editorial effort for the AAS History Committee, supported by a team of specialists that included Dr. Joachim Kehr (DLR/GSOC ret.), Dr. Rick Sturdevant (AFSPC), Michael Ciancone (NASA), Lars Oliefka (ESA), and Joni Wilson (copy editor). |

Certainly is, but I've pre-ordered it. My high school German is now almost non-existant and it's a classic. |

Mine's arrived, haven't had the chance to read it yet. I can say it's an excellent quality hardback, good paper, crisp printing, clearly legible illustrations. None of the common limited run book defects. It's a no nonsense engineering text, and at that price, strictly for a hardcore readership. | |
