Great news. I hope this cheaper paperback edition encourages more to read what really is a unique take on origins of the Russian space programme.

Just a heads up that this book is now out in paperback. See here.

The book is a detailed (pre)history of the Soviet space program and is based almost entirely on extensive research in state and private archives in Russia. There are chapters on Tsiolkovsky, Tsander, GIRD, RNII, Stalin's terror, Korolev's imprisonment, the capture of German designers after World War II, the design of the R-7 ICBM and the origins and launch of Sputnik.

All times are CT (US)
