Following the splashdown of Apollo 17, the BBC broadcast a documentary about the Apollo program later that same evening.

I cannot for the life of me remember the title, though I watched it avidly at the time.

Can anybody put me out of my misery and conjure up the title of the broadcast in question?

Was it "The End of the Beginning" by James Burke perhaps?

For years I have wondered about a documentary narrated by James Burke at around this time on the BBC which I recorded on an old Grundig reel to reel machine and used to play over and over.

The programme as I recall documented the manned space effort from the early days and was backed by music from the more uplifting parts of the "Planet Suite."

I'm wondering if this could be the same broadcast?

I was kind of hoping it would be on YouTube somewhere... but I can't seem to find it.

Rick - a list James Burke's programmes can be found on Wikipedia. "The End of the Beginning" is listed as a 1972 production. Does this help?

Thanks for the pointer Eddie. I still don't seem to find the programme to view online. Shame.

The show was "The End of the Beginning" and it was aired at 01.20 am on BBC1 prior to the (delayed) launch coverage on December 7, 1972 and not after the splashdown, I have a very good audio recording on CD if interested. From the Radio Times:

I would be interested in an audio copy. Can you turn the CD copy into a digital file? If not I'd gladly pay for another CD and shipping to USA. Thanks.
