The podcast site, omega tau podcast, has placed online a programme about the Apollo missions recorded with me last month. This episode is a conversation with W. David Woods about his wonderful book How Apollo Flew to the Moon where he describes in great length all the detail a geek wants to know about how the Apollo spacecraft and the flights to the Moon worked. In the episode, we basically go through an Apollo mission and discuss aspects such as the mission structure, the workshare between the crew and mission control, communication and telemetry, guidance and navigation, approach, landing and re-launch on the Moon as well as re-entry and landing on earth. |

I have been listening to that on and off for the last couple of days, and really enjoyed it, David - thanks. One of the things Al Worden and I spent longest working on for his book "Falling To Earth" was how to simply and clearly describe how to navigate to, around, and back from the moon. You use nicely clear analogies in doing the same that I enjoyed hearing. In fact, if you wanted to post it on the "Falling To Earth" Facebook page, I am sure some followers there would enjoy your masterclass! |

This is GREAT. Thank you.Is there a way to download this and save for future listening? Edit: There is a way to right click and save this in iTunes (for Macs at least). It is a 127 MB file so may take a few moments.

The omega tau podcast website has just placed online the second of the podcasts I recorded with them. This is the long-awaited follow-up to the first Apollo episode, once again with W. David Woods, author of How Apollo Flew to the Moon. In this episode we cover that part that we omitted in the first episode: the time on the moon. We talk about life support, the various scientific instruments and experiments as well as the technology and use of the lunar rover (about which David is actually writing another book. Enjoy. | |
