Anyone ordered Charlie Duke's Apollo 16 DVD off of his website? Just wondering if it was worth getting and by some off chance it actually came signed? For $19.95 I was considering ordering it. I'd be interested in a DVD simply about the mission but wouldn't want any of the God stuff. Since he has another DVD available talking about his religious feelings I assume this one would just be about the mission but wanted to just make sure. Thanks for any help. |

To be sure, you could find out any info you need by contacting him through his website, ('Contact Us'). |

Last time Charlie came to Autographica I emailed him asking him if he could bring one over as I wanted a copy, he brought a few and I'm pretty sure he sold out. It's well worth getting as he talks the viewer through many interesting items. (And he is still proud of the fact that he can still fit in his lunar suit, lol.)You can preview the DVD on Charlie's multimedia page on his site if you want to see what is on it. |

Thanks for the info. It sounds interesting so I may order one. I don't suppose he actually signed it too? |

No it didn't come signed, I'm sure Charlie would have signed it but as it was at Autographica I would have expected to pay a fee at that time, and I was having something else signed by him and I just wanted the DVD as it was.Charlie is a very accessible guy and does answer queries when he can, I'd email him via the site and just ask how much for a signed copy? |

Thanks for the info. Yes I just emailed him the other day about how much it would cost to have something else signed and someone (possibly him) replied today to it. I may ask him about the dvd too in a while as I don't want to seem like a pest. It is cool to think an astronaut personally responded to my email. I can't imagine too many guys still do that. I sent a very simple and polite question to Gene Cernan's website and never even got a response. He does seem like one of the more friendly or easygoing former astronauts (I've never met him) — at least compared to some of the others. I'm speaking autograph-wise of course. He could have went the John Young route, made it a big deal, never signed and been getting $500 an autograph. Instead he's accessible and fairly reasonably priced and he should be commended for that. It's a shame more astronauts aren't more like him in that regard. Sometimes things really are simply what you make them. |

Walt Cunningham is another astronaut that is accessible. I had bought a copy of The All American Boys and it had a personal inscription in it. I emailed him regarding the inscription and got an answer the next day. It was to a friend who had passed away. It was great to have him reply. |

I think Gen Duke is like that because of all the "God Stuff" in his life. |

You have to bear in mind that not every astronaut particularly enjoys signing autographs, participating in shows, etc. I think you're being unfair to Young. first of all, Young is one of the most successful and longest-serving astronauts with some pretty awesome accomplishments under his belt. Secondly, he doesn't like attention or people making a fuss over him. If he signed for $100 and did signings at shows or through the mail he would never get a break. I personally think that his fee is his way of not having to sign too much stuff. Others would know better. My point is that I don't think this is a reflection of Young as a person and doesn't make him less friendly than anyone else. And I do agree that Charlie is awesome and friendly and a great guy. |

I wasn't implying that astronauts that don't sign are bad people but I was saying that they create the marketplace they claim to hate with their policies. If Young charged $100 his autograph would be worth the same as Duke's. If he had signed for awhile like Duke instead of limiting it he wouldn't have to sign anymore than Duke does now, and wouldn't be worth anymore. Its not like he has an enormous amount of popularity compared to Duke. They're both about the same. Duke, Mitchell, Cunningham, etc., aren't overrun with autograph requests because their available to sign things. Young only gets $400 more per autograph because he hardly ever signs and that's the only way to get him. |

I think it's just a reasonable stance to a simple situation - but I commend him just the same.

Ok well now you're getting into a whole other debate and I don't agree with you at all, but this topic isn't about that, so I'll say no more.Good luck with your dvd. You might not want to tell Charlie you don't want the one with the "God stuff". |

Yes I will be sure not to mention that. I'm sure he's a pleasant enough guy and wouldn't be offended (or even care) by me not being into that sort of thing. |
