I stumbled upon some great 'home' documentary-style footage of some of the Apollo moonwalkers from 16 years ago! It was a piece called 'After One Small Step.' Pardon my ignorance, but is anyone familiar with this documentary? Is it available anywhere in one clip, possibly in VHS form?

It is four parts and here is part one (Aldrin and part of Conrad) which links to the remaining three.

Of special note for artifact collectors, part 3 shows Mitchell going though his flown item collection!

I recall this one fondly as a rather wry British documentary that allowed us to see the post-Apollo life of (as I recall) Aldrin, Conrad, Bean, Mitchell and Duke in more detail than I recalled anywhere else. Ending on a comic touch with Ed Mitchell driving, frustrated as no matter how many times he changes radio stations, all the songs reference the moon...

This sounds great, especially if it provides some good footage of Conrad's personality coming through. From what I've read he seems like one of the more interesting astronauts. I'll look at it later when I'm supposed to be grading papers.

Yes, you will see some spectacular footage of Conrad on his motorcycle.

Remember it well. I've still got it on a VHS tape somewhere (not great quality). It's quite fun seeing Ed Mitchell rummaging around in an old case from his closet containing his lunar memorabilia.

At one point he displays a UK flag flown to the moon as 'something that may be of interest to your viewers...'

The flag actually ended up in the hands of a UK collector a few years later.

I think I found this on YouTube this afternoon, some great footage of Pete Conrad on his bike with Bad Moon Rising playing in the background.

Sad to hear Pete saying in 1994 that he didn't believe that any of the original moonwalkers would be alive the next time men went to the Moon. I wouldn't have believed it then, but I'm starting to think he was prophetic.

Unfortunately, this documentary has been removed from YouTube.

Might anyone have a spare hard copy I can purchase or can anyone locate the documentary anywhere else on the web?

This was in fact the third programme of four, broadcast on BBC in July 1994, to mark the 25th anniversary of Apollo 11.

I recorded all four in S-VHS.

I too particularly love the part where Mitchell is desperately trying to find a radio station that isn't playing a song with a moon connection!

Indeed a good documentary... at least some collectors made a DVD-version of their VHS tapes

As I did! I now have a 2.6GB MPEG-2 file of the VHS version. Contact me through my website.
