I couldn't help but notice the cameraman right in launch director Mike Lienbach's face just before the STS-133 launch, which got me thinking about upcoming programming that is being produced about the shuttles.

Any ideas on what is in the works by Discovery/Science/National Geographic channels?

Discovery Communications' The Science Channel announced in April 2010 "The Last Shuttle Mission." At the time, Discovery's STS-133 mission was scheduled as the last mission, hence the reference to live coverage of Discovery's launch below.
As NASA retires the historic space shuttle program, Science Channel brings viewers the definitive story of the shuttle through the men and women who worked tirelessly to build it. From preparations for the momentous final mission to live coverage of the Shuttle Discovery launch from Kennedy Space Center, "The Last Shuttle Mission" will celebrate the orbiter's achievements, present the shuttle's untold stories and look towards mankind's limitless future in space.
National Geographic hasn't announced their programming (to my knowledge), but I believe they are working to put together a documentary.

There is at least two, if not more, Japanese TV networks producing documentaries about the last shuttle mission.

The changes to NASA's manifest which resulted in STS-133, then STS-134, and now STS-135 being the last mission have resulted in at least one U.S. TV network filming a lot of material with each successive final crew.

Thank you Robert.

I'm really hoping for some in-depth, HD documentaries.

It would also be great to see another program that documented the decommissioning and transferring of the shuttles to their new homes. (I appreciated your question in the post-flight press conference regarding how intact the shuttles would be upon transfer to museums.)

All times are CT (US)
