Journey to Space: A Memoir of Malaysia's First Angkasawan
by Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor
Dr Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor was the first Malaysian to go into space on 10 October 2007, when he was launched to the International Space Station aboard Soyuz TMA-11 with the Expedition 16 crew.

Journey to Space details his personal account of the rollercoaster emotions of excitement and tribulations throughout his experience in the Angkasawan programme-starting from when he made his application, the arduous training and medical examinations that followed and when he was selected to undergo a one-year training stint in Star City, Russia, and finally being chosen as the prime crew member on the Soyuz 11. Journey to Space is a memoir that will be an inspiring read to others who may wish to tread in the footsteps of Sheikh Muszaphar and shows that with enough determination, faith and belief in yourself, no dream is impossible.

Does anyone know of a reasonably-priced way to obtain a copy of this book in the US? To order direct from the publisher via their web site, the shipping costs are six times the price of the book itself.

The softcover is much less than the hardcover (RM25 = about USD $8) if that makes a difference.

There is a way to decrease the shipping costs, but the path is a bit cumbersome. I did it twice; for this book, and 'Reaching for the stars' by the Angkasawan's brother, the late Sheikh Mustapha Shukor Al-Masrie), and it worked. For the newest book, I paid approx. EUR 30 (hardcover version), including shipping to my address in the Netherlands.

The high shipping cost of the book are based on courier-delivery. To decrease the shipping costs (using 'normal shipping'), one has to contact the store beforehand to 'pre-warn' them. Response will take approx. 1 day. You then have to place the order (with the high shipping costs), and send another e-mail to the store, stating your order ID. The store will subsequently change the shipping method to 'normal' shipping, and issue a credit for the difference (which takes approx. 3 weeks).

Thanks so much for that advice. It does indeed sound convoluted, and I'd be concerned doing it that way, approving a very high cost only to immediately rescind it.

If someone was willing to obtain a copy of each of these books for cover price plus reasonable shipping, I would be happy to purchase a copy from them - thanks.
