Has anyone heard of this film, Fallen Idol: The Yuri Gagarin Conspiracy?

I know that this rumor has been going around for years but it eerily reminds me of the Apollo Conspiracy Theories. Does everyone have to go out of their way to tarnish such great moments in history?

I have had a difficult time finding out more info on this documentary/movie. Anyone else have more information?

Indican Pictures is releasing Fallen Idol.
In 1961 President John F. Kennedy started the United States on a path of discovery and exploration that captures the best of mankind's spirit. On April 12th, 1961, the Soviet Union reports the successful launch, orbit and reentry of the first man in space, Cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin pushing the cold war into a space duel. With the collapse of communism and the rise of freedom in the Russian Federation, recent access to documents in the Kremlin archives reveal a story intended to remain buried forever. Yuri Gagarin, the icon of triumphant communism known world over, was not the first man in space. He was preceded by Vladimir Ilyushin, an unsung hero and the man at the center of this decades old conspiracy....
The above link to Indican's website includes a trailer and additional details.

I believe that space historian Jim Oberg is preparing to debunk this film as he has been collecting information about it for the past couple of months. The tales about Ilyushin are old, tired and well-established as false.

I think part of the problem lies in the fact that many people continue to believe that Moscow Radio announced Gagarin's flight only after he returned safely - implying that news of Ilyushin's "flight" would have been broadcast only after he touched down.

With Vostok 1 this simply was NOT the case.

He took off at 06.07 GMT. Moscow announced the flight at 06.59 GMT. And Gagarin landed at 07.55 GMT.

All times are CT (US)
