Can anyone tell me what the streaks/stains are that appear on many of the Apollo 16 color images? Were they caused by something on the lens, damage to the film or perhaps some other factor? They sure are a pain to remove via photoshop!
Thanks, Dennis

You are probably referring to lunar dust that was smeared on the film magazines as they were changed by the crew.

It is my understanding dust was indeed present on the film magazines (almost inevitably) later in the surface activity. As the film slide was removed to allow exposure, the dust would have been "bunched up" on one side of the gate and the dust was then smeared across the emulsion as the film was advanced through the magazine.
