A few weeks ago I found a book titled The Sea of Tranquility. It is a children's book and it was written by a British author in 1996. The book was written by Mark Haddon and illustrated by Christian Birmingham. I read the description of the book at Amazon and I read the only review of the book posted there. After that I ordered it, not for Miranda or anyone else, but for myself.

I would not be surprised at all to learn that someone from this forum wrote or illustrated the book. I read the book in less than 2 minutes but it has to be one of the best books I have read for a while.

Take a look at the review and descriptions on Amazon. You may find yourself ordering one too.

One warning about the book. It seems the spelling of "Tranquility" in the book's title was wrong on the hardback version of the book. The soft cover is spelled Tranquility and the hard cover is with two Ls, Tranquillity. So if you end up looking for a hard back do the search with Tranquillity.

What synchronicity! I read this with one of our children yesterday evening. I agree that it's an excellent book - I particularly like the illustration in which, in their imagination, the child joins Armstrong and Aldrin on the moon - in a perfect little Apollo space suit.

That is a neat drawing. I also like the overhead view showing the astronauts, the lunar lander, and the foot prints and craters on the Moon.

Take a look at the back cover. There is a neat drawing of a Saturn V liftoff.

Another nice children's book of which Apollo 11 is the subject is "Neil, Buzz and Mike Go to the Moon" by Richard Hilliard. The (2005) book is a large hardcover and the illustrations are very well done. It is a basic re-telling of the Apollo 11 mission from start to finish, and well worth the price.
