It gives me considerable pleasure to announce that another author has been officially contracted to write a book in the Outward Odyssey series for the University of Nebraska Press. This book, due for delivery to the publishers in 2009, will be the tenth and probably final book in this fabulous series, and will tell the continuing story of private space flight; its origins, personalities, history and future. While it's probably best to keep the title in house at this time, the sole author will be my co-author on the recent "Animals in Space" book, and collectSPACE regular, Chris Dubbs. Chris has already begun work on this book, and will undoubtedly do a superb job. A well-known spaceflight writer has already been contracted to write the series book on the history of space stations, but has asked for two months' grace before his name can be announced due to other commitments. At that time I will present to collectSPACE readers a complete list of the ten books in the series and the authors assigned to the books to that time. In reality, the only books left to be contracted by the Press are the two planned shuttle books, and one already has co-authors organised but not yet under contract (one is a well-known former shuttle astronaut), while a principal author has already agreed to write the second book together with another well-known shuttle astronaut as co-author. Both non-astronaut authors are very well known to readers at collectSPACE. By the end of this year the first two books will have been released; "Into That Silent Sea" and "In the Shadow of the Moon." Next year will see the release of "To a Distant Day" by Chris Gainor, and "Homesteading Space" by David Hitt, Owen Garriott and Joe Kerwin. As mentioned previously, all books are intended to stand alone, but when ultimately combined will offer a complete social history of human and robotic space exploration. In closing, Chris Dubbs has told me he would love to hear from anyone who might have any information on the subject of private or commercial space flight that they could share with him. Colin |

That's correct; "Ambassadors From Earth" is Jay's much anticipated book in the Outward Odyssey series, and is currently set for a 2009 release.Colin |

Colin, Boy if I hate maths... Ok, so we have a 10-book series with, according to your first post, the last one to be published in 2009. Didn't you say at one point that there would be 2 books per year? So, there are going to be 2 for 2007 and then? Did I miss something here? Chris. |

2009 is the delivery date of the manuscript to the publishers (sorry, I can see that it might have been read as the actual books being delivered to them). It currently has a provisional release date of 2011. |
