During my stay in Jersey for the UACC show (for those that care, I was the lunatic wearing the black 'Buran' shirt on Saturday :-) ), I took the subway to Brighton Beach and spent a few hours shopping and conversing with the locals (in Russian, of course!)

Anyway, I found this book that was impossible to pass up. We've all heard the usual crap from the conspiracy theorists. THIS GUY, on the other hand, implies a much larger, international conspiracy.

I knew that the whole "Cold War" was a joint American/Soviet hoax! It was all faked just so the fat cat politicians in both nations could line their pockets with stolen money from military and space programs! I bet Kennedy and Khruschev were laughing it up after the Cuban Missile Crisis.

I know this is true because I read it somewhere on the internet, and the internet never lies.

That's fascinating. I would be interested in finding out _why_ he thinks that the "despicable" representatives of Soviet science would want to participate in an American cover-up. I'd also be interested in knowing why the Soviet leadership would cooperate in this as well.

Then again, it is probably no more interesting than most conspiracy theories, which are really no more interesting than a car crash on the side of the road--we slow down and gawk, shake our heads, and then continue on our way.

I recently acquired a new moon hoax book produced by somebody that I had never heard of before. This one is a real piece of work because the writer disbelieves everything, even obvious stuff. For instance, she claims that even the "flying bedstead" lunar landing simulations were faked. Her evidence for this is twofold. First, there are no flames visible from the "rocket" exhaust underneath the vehicle. Second, no pictures show above the vehicle, because she thinks that it was suspended from a helicopter. Of course both counts are laughable. The vehicle used a jet engine, not a rocket, as you can clearly see in many of the photographs of it sitting on the ground. Second, there are plenty of moving images of the vehicle in autonomous flight, not suspended from a helicopter. But this book includes several pages on how the whole thing was faked. (Also it is slightly interesting that in this case the conspiracist is a woman.)
