To coincide with the 50th anniversary celebrations of Man High II in Crosby, Minnesota this weekend, Greg Kennedy's new book, "Touching Space," has just been released. I believe it will be on sale at the event, together with some commemorative postal covers. Legendary David Simons will be in attendance, as well as former scientist-astronaut Doc Graveline. I have been sent this website for anyone who might wish to order the book. I haven't read it, so cannot comment on its contents. |

Crosby is a nice 'getaway' town just a few hours north of the Twin Cities, and the locals seems to take great pride in it being 'the birthplace of space flight', as one guy described it.If you go, take your rollerblades/bicycles/run shoes for the great trail system, and be sure to stay at the 'Viking Brew and Bed': a viking-themed B&B complete with outfits to wear, animal skins on the beds, etc. etc. Umm... I know it from personal experience! Jay Gallentine |

My copy of Greg Kennedy's book arrived in Scotland this week. It's a large format paperback. This often fills me with apprehension - lots of photos, no content - but that's not the case here. The photos are good - no, they're great - but the text is excellent as well. It also racks up two appendices and a bibliography, which gives an indication of the amount of work that has gone in to this volume. Most of the photos are new to me. Dr David Simons and the late Dr John Paul Stapp are both cited in the acknowledgments, and this gives an indication of the work that Greg Kennedy has put into this work. I'd recommend this volume to anyone interested in the key era of the pre-astronauts - men who didn't even need a rocket! | |
