As I'm sure most cSers will attest, one of the great joys of our hobby is telling fellow collectors about a great "find" (without bragging TOO much, of course). Well, this morning was a bit like Christmas for me. Briefly, I spent some time last week on another space-related forum, and the topic of conversation was the work of the great space artist Robert McCall, who had passed on a few days earlier. One of the books discussed was Eyewitness to Space, the mammoth coffee-table compilation published in the mid-70s and in which McCall's work was prominently featured.
I already had a copy, but just for grins I decided to see what it was going for these days. I found a copy on Amazon, for sale by a private seller, listed as "new" for US$50. At that price, I guessed that either the seller was misrepresenting the book's condition, or was simply not "into" space and didn't really realize what he had.
Well, I bought the book, it arrived today, and to my utter astonishment it was not only brand-new but still sealed in the Abrams shipping carton! By appearances,it had never seen the light of day since leaving the publisher's warehouse. Just had to share.
