My family and I got to see the glorious launch of STS-102 back in March 2001. I'd like to send Commander Wetherbee a photo of the launch to sign for us. Anybody know if he signs via Johnson Space Center? Thanks.

Wetherbee retired from NASA in January 2005.

The best way to go would be to try and find out if he will appear in your area (check the Sightings listings) and be there to ask him in person.

Jim Wetherbee has never been very good signer through the mail. I have had a request out to him for over 3 years now. He is great in person.

And has got to rank up in the list of shuttle astronauts to go hear when he comes around... he being a Notre Dame grad, I get my share of visits!

Thanks for the advice everyone. I am up in eastern Canada so local appearances are out.

That launch was one of the great moments of my life and it would be great to have a signed photo of it.

He is great in person. I heard him play in MaxQ at Kennedy Space Center, and stopped to listen. He autographed something for me and talked to me for a while. A very positive experience!

Has anyone had any luck with him lately? I was hoping to to get a picture signed by him.

Second time was the charm - got Wetherbee today, seven years to the day after I first met him, if my recollection is correct.

Said after six flights, he wanted to go into teaching the other astronauts. And he was 50 then, and he felt flying was for the younger astronauts.

Saw Wetherbee again Saturday (May 20) at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex. He signed Eileen Collins' STS-63 essay from "Space Shuttle: The First 20 Years" and added unasked, "Eileen was awesome!"
