I am putting together the Series 3 Spaceshots card set and in the second to last pack I opened was a Jim Lovell signed hologram card. I was pretty excited!

It's a keeper. Jim won't sign SpaceShots cards (long story)

Pol- that must have been a very pleasant surprise.

Out of curiosity, does any one know how many of these cards Lovell did sign for the company? I would think there would be a good number of them but I have never noticed them being sold.

He wrote 561/1000 after his signature.

Kim - I'm curious - why doesn't he sign SpaceShots cards?

It's covered in other threads (search the archives for "spaceshots cards"), but it all has to do with a deal that apparently went sour between the astronauts and the person behind the Spaceshots Cards (Ed White III, son of the astronaut). Remember that while NASA photos are public domain, permission must still be obtained when commercializing a likeness of an astronaut. Most of the astronauts agreed to let White use their image, as they all had great respect for his father.

I don't specifically know what went wrong to cause the grievance between the astronauts and White, but most of the astronauts seem unified in their dislike for what happened...and many have since distanced themselves as far as they can from these cards.

All times are CT (US)
