The "world famous" Fat Boys of Cape Canaveral has permanently closed.

I wonder what happened to all the signed pictures?

I did inquire about the photos and was told the owner would not sell.

I believe they belonged (at least at one time) to Ken Havekotte, but I am not aware as to whether they were a loan or a donation. It was sad to sit there and see a John Young Gemini WSS signed photo and faded nearly gone. Amongst others.

Of course, us geeks went for the ambiance rather than the food, which is good. The new owners had lousy service when a group of us piled into it after the STS-105 launch. So I can see why they'd be closing. Which is way too bad.

This is sad news, indeed. We ate at Fat Boys when we were out for STS-108, and the collection was amazing.

Reviving this 2002 thread...

Three friends and I had dinner at Fat Boys the night before the STS-95 launch. The following afternoon we dined there again after viewing John Glenn's second blast off into space.

Everything about the Fat Boy's experience was wonderful. My friends loved it The food, the service and of course the history was great.

Surprisingly enough on both occasions we didn't have long to wait to be seated. Apparently Fat Boys was only known to space geeks. The vast majority of tourists returning to their hotels after the launch drove right past. They had no idea what they were missing.

I'll always remember the homemade Key Lime pie. It was my first time having it and it was delicious. To this day whenever I eat Key Lime pie I always compare it to Fat Boys but it's seldom as good and never any better.

It's a real shame that the new owner didn't keep Fat Boys just as it was. I wish it could've been enjoyed by the next generation of astronauts and space enthusiasts.

Fat Boys was a chain. There was an ugly divorce settlement they had to be sold off. They were no long "Fat Boys" but went by other names.
