The Bob Bullock Museum in Austin, Texas is ending The 1968 Exhibit on Sept. 1, 2014.

Several objects covering the flight of Apollo 8 are on loan from the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum and displayed/featured as part of this nicely-done retrospective on a tumultuous year.

The flown items include Frank Borman's Speedmaster, Jim Lovell's A7L bubble helmet, and Bill Anders' LMP Checklist. Some images of the objects can be found at a Smithsonian blog page covering the flight.

The two phonecam pictures I grabbed show the objects together at the Bullock Museum and an interesting "Take 1" note on the back of Anders' checklist. The note is not shown in any of the Smithsonian's pictures nor was it made visible in the museum-exhibited item.

(It took a bit of contortion to image the checklist backside. Fortunately my reach behind the plexiglass enclosure didn't seem to raise any suspicions with security. )

It didn't take long to find the 'Apollo 8 Home Movie' segment where the "Take 1" signage was used; see 0:46 into the YouTube video for a glimpse of the page in-flight.

Kind of a shame the 'personalized cue-card' of the checklist back cover was not at all shown or explained. In my opinion, it equaled/exceeded the interest-factor of the checklist pages displayed at either the Bullock or on the Smithsonian's website.

All times are CT (US)
