Hello everyone! I hope this message finds you in high spirits!

I'm Petter Englund, currently researching the historical significance of the Astronaut Beach House at Cape Canaveral for an upcoming film project.

I'm reaching out to the community in the hopes of connecting with individuals who may have:

  • Direct or indirect knowledge about the Astronaut Beach House.

  • Anecdotes, whether from personal experience or through hearsay.

  • Suggestions for biographical references, including but not limited to those by astronauts, that mention the beach house and its role.
Additionally, there are a couple of specific questions that have been on my mind:
  • Historical Use: I've come across conflicting information about when the Astronaut Beach House was first used as a retreat for astronauts before launch. Some sources mention the Gemini era, while others point to the Apollo program. If anyone has accurate information on this timeline, I'd greatly appreciate it!

  • LIFE Magazine's House: It has come to my attention that there may have been an earlier house, aka “LIFE”, leased by LIFE magazine, which may have served a similar purpose as "the Astronaut Beach House" for earlier crews. I'd like to know if this is accurate or if there is anyone here with details regarding this earlier house.

  • Today’s use. I’ve learned that it’s primarily being used as a conference facility at NASA today. Is it still being used for crew though, or has that era come to an end?

  • Final question: If you could be a fly on the wall and attend no more than three pre-launch events at the beach house, ranging from the early days to the present, which would you choose and why?
I'm truly looking forward to any contributions, no matter how small! Thank you for your time!
