While watching the Apollo 8 launch presentation at Kennedy Space Center's Apollo Saturn V Center last Friday, I noticed on the center screen right before the first and second stage separation, a video of three astronauts in an Apollo cabin. I did not think they took in-cabin film of that flight. Did they use film from a later flight and use it for this exhibit?

Sounds as if they used ASTP footage. That's the only flight with launch TV/footage from inside the craft.

Even the folks who made the AV for KSC succumbed to the old film trick of substituting the right looking images rather than stick wholly to the historical footage. The slide/video presentation in the pre-show, the launch room, and the Lunar Landing Theater show all suffer from this. It in no way misrepresents what was historically happening at that point in the presentation's narrative, but we who are more informed an knowledgeable about these things might notice what is far above the average tourist. Who, by the way, will leave with a better understanding of what they witnessed, because of it.

I have often wanted to do a 'Nit-Picker's Guide to the ASVC' and point out all the incongruities, not so much in a critical way but more as a game of 'look what I found'. It is still my favorite place to visit here at KSC.

Ok, now you have me wondering what else I missed. I video taped all the programs. I'm going to go see what else I missed.

I agree the Saturn V center is the best building for visitors at KSC. I have to confess the rest of the Visitors Center left me slighly unimpressed overall.

The Cape Canaveral Then and Now tour (with the Saturn V center at the conclusion) was the best thing there.

I wanted to go on the then and now tour Saturday but it was sold out. I guess I will get tickets earlier next time. That is the only tour I have not been able to see.

All times are CT (US)
