The X-20 pilots pose with a full-scale mockup of the vehicle during a photo shoot for LIFE magazine. Clockwise from top right are Major Henry Gordon, NASA's Milton Thompson, Captain William Knight, Major Russell Rogers, Major James Woods and Captain Albert Crews. |

I've only ever seen this photo in black and white before. Colour — which reminded me of a vehicular re-entry hue — just adds a whole new dimension and vibrancy to it. Another one well selected, Ed.

You continue to amaze. Like Colin, I too had only seen the B&W version. Thank you. |

I don't have an exact date, but I believe it was taken in 1962. |

This photo certainly has a period feel to it. I can’t help but think it is a still from an early episode of Star Trek. |

I wonder why Crews is missing the Edwards AFB patch? |

...and no Boeing pilots? I guess the program was completely turned over to the USAF by that point obviously... |
