Half a century ago this week, the Apollo 10 spacecraft (CSM-106/LM-4) was at Launch Pad 39B during the Countdown Demonstration Test. Launch was scheduled for May 18.

What a beauty! By the way is that a beagle sleeping on a doghouse near the top of the stack?

Fantastic photo of an awesome vehicle. My one regret in life was never being there to watch a launch of a Saturn V.

I assume that this subject has already been covered elsewhere, but why was pad 39B only used once during Apollo ?

Same question for MOCR-1 at MCC. All flights except Apollo 7 were controlled from MOCR-2...

The only time Pad "B" was needed during Apollo was when the frequency of launch was 2 months apart. All other Apollo flights were several months apart...more than enough time to turn Pad "A" around.

I seem to recall that if Apollo 11 had failed, the plan was to launch Apollo 12 in September from Pad 39B.

All times are CT (US)
