He is holding up a certificate that proclaims that on the 30th day of January 1965 he was appointed to the rank of colonel in the Confederate Air Force.
onesmallstep Member Posts: 1310 From: Staten Island, New York USA Registered: Nov 2007	posted 01-30-2015 02:29 PM For those aviation-minded, the group that issued Grissom the certificate is now called the Commemorative Air Force, founded in 1957 and comprising vintage World War 2-era planes maintained at its base in Texas and in other affiliated 'wings' in other states and four countries. It puts on a large impressive airshow each year, and will soon move to larger space for its planes and museum to Dallas.
