April 10, 1981, was to have been the big day, but Columbia just wasn't ready yet. John Young's face tells the story, as he steps from the Astrovan upon his return to the Operations and Checkout Building from Launch Complex 39A, following the launch scrub earlier that morning. Bob Crippen is behind Young and suit technician Jim Schlosser is at left. A problem with one of Columbia's computers forced a two-day delay. Ed Hengeveld |

Whimsical caption: "You may be blind, fella, but does this sound like the voice of Sally Ride to you? And just watch where you're putting your hands!" |
