I know that a Venus mission isn't feasible for any number of reasons. But I was wondering if, strictly as a practical matter, a trip to Venus would require less fuel and time as a Mars mission?

For that matter, how about Mercury for fuel and time?

NASA considered the possibility of sending a Skylab-class vehicle on a Venus flyby mission back in the late 1960's. I assume something similar might be possible with several modules lofted by Ares V launches, joined in orbit to an Orion, and then sent on their way.

Mercury would be a real challenge, in my opinion. That's pretty deep into the Sun's gravity well. You'd also need a lot more thermal and radiation shielding.

All times are CT (US)
