I have lurked on this site from time to time but never had anything to contribute.

Long story short, I happened to come into contact over the summer with Colin Cantwell, who was one of the first people hired for Star Wars way back in 1974, and he created the prototype models for the classic ships (the X-Wing, Tie Fighter, Star Destroyer, Death Star, etc).

In any event, I ended up going out to Colorado to interview him and help him to consign some of his memorabilia for auction. It ends up that he has had quite interesting experiences in science and history, outside of his work on science fiction film and television shows.

He worked with NASA and CBS with the Apollo 11 mission, and was in studio with Walter Chronkite (coaching him through the technical side of things in real time) during the moon landing.

He also saved his flight plans from NASA, which will be sold this weekend at auction at Julien's Auctions.

I did interview him about this, so I have provided a few links below. He was also be doing a meet and greet Friday in Beverly Hills that is open to the public. He is 82 years old, so I'm sure he would have a lot of stories that could be of interest to this group. I will be traveling to Southern California for this as well, so if you have any specific questions that you would like me to ask, please let me know and I'll do my best and report back.

About the meet and greet Friday, my article with some biography about Mr. Cantwell and all of my interviews, and the flight plans. Thank you, — Jason

I hardly know where to start. These "original" Apollo 11 Flight Plans are clearly photocopies. (Look for the copied original punch-holes). $10,000 - $15,000 estimated price? Don't make me laugh. An Apollo 11 Final Flight Plan used by a contractor during the mission recently failed to attract an opening bid of $2,000.

I do have to agree about the very unrealistic starting bid for the photocopy Apollo 11 flight plan. Still, interesting details about Cantwell's experiences.

The starting price is based on his attachment to it - it was the only item in his collection that he put any reserve on whatsoever (everything else was no reserve). He had no idea of value, but that is the value to him (which is obviously subjective). I'm sure he will be happy to keep it if it does not sell.

I believe the use of the word "original" was to describe it as having been used as part of the mission, not how the paper was produced (out of a printer or copier). I have to confess I am ignorant to NASA flight plans, so I had no help to offer with that. There is no intention to market it as something it is not. I posted here just because I thought people would be interested in his experiences with the mission and/or would maybe want to talk with him about it at the meet and greet on Friday.
