Last Saturday, Mayor Pro Tem of the City of Downey, Calif., Roger C. Brossmer, proclaimed on behalf of the Downey City Council and the citizens of Downey that Aug. 27, 2011 was "Colonel Worden Day" for Apollo 15 astronaut Al Worden's "continued kinship with the city and wish to help inspire the next generation of engineers and space explorers."

Worden was presented the official proclamation by the Brossmer and city council members at the Columbia Memorial Space Center, on the site of the Downey plant where the Apollo spacecraft were built 40 years ago.
