I found this Apollo 11 crew training picture. It looks for me Neil Armstrong is wearing optical eyeglasses. What do you think?

Maybe they are early safety glasses or something, they look like pretty hefty frames. There's another shot from the same day on the Apollo Archive website where Collins and the engineer are also wearing glasses.

Maybe he was attempting to start a new fashion trend?

Looking on the HD copy of this picture, you cannot really see any diffraction typically associated with an optical glass. It should be even more apparent since it is seen at about 45 degrees from the focus axis.
So I doubt it being optical glasses.

They're safety glasses of the time. Had a pair similar to them myself.
