These roasts are classics! Now that I'm older it is very clear that Dean Martin had at least one too many during this particular show!

For all of you youngsters out there the clip consisted of well known comedians and actors of the day - from left to right: Charlie Callas, Nipsey Russell, Bob Newhart, Telly Savalas, Cliff Robertson, Dick Martin, Dan Rowan, Dean Martin, Don Rickles, Jack Klugman, Joey Bishop, Lorne Greene, Rich Little, Foster Brooks, Pat Henry, Gene Cernan and Phyllis Diller.

There is also an acknowledgment to Cernan by Rickles on this link.

Dean Martin was reportedly not a very big drinker in real life...and his portrayal as a drunk on stage and TV was quite often an act (albeit a very convincing act). It has even been said that he often sipped apple juice instead of liquor while working.

Gene did a great job, but fortunately he didn't give up his astronaut job.

I have read that he never got over the death of his son who was a captain in the USAFR and died in the crash of his fighter plane I think in 1983. A very sad thing to happen to a great man and entertainer.

If you are old enough to remember, Dean Martin's son was also a part of the singing group, "Dino, Desi and Billy".

The untimely death of Dino Martin occured on March 21, 1987 at San Gorgonio Mountain, California.

Did anyone else notice Cernan picking at his fingernail the entire time Rickles was acknowledging him in Part 10 until he stood up to take a bow?!

I'm glad he wasn't that nervous while landing on the Moon!

Hey they are human beings after all.

It amazes me how Cernan changed. Remember this is just 8 years after he was pilot of Gemini 9.

If he was still a Captain in the Navy, his haircut was nowhere near regulation...even during the Zumwalt days.

All times are CT (US)
