Did backup crews take official photos? I ask this because sometimes for some crews there are photos and they are unavailable for others.

For the Gemini flight crews, I believe the missions that didn't have an official photo with the back-up crew were:

Gemini 5, 6, 9 (w/ Lovell & Aldrin as BU), & 10.

For Apollo, I'm pretty sure that only Apollo 1, and 8 depicted the prime and back-up crews in an official NASA photo. I've also seen a photo of the Apollo 14 back-up crew with Cernan, Evans and Engle.

Hope that helps.

There's also a backup crew portrait for (if I remember correctly) SL4. Schweickhart, Musgrave but the name of the third member escapes me.

I would have loved to see a photo of the Apollo 10 backup crew of Cooper, Eisele and Mitchell.

There is a nice informal shot of the trio.

Hello,

I collect all Russian version of the ISS crew portrait and I know that fact so video-photo departament made all combination of the crew members and all individial portraits...but of course the photographed person decides which photo is officially release!

For instance: there isn't the sokol verion of individual portrait of Oleg Kotov (100th Soviet/Russian cosmonaut) in photo gallery at HSF at JSC, but there is only one I have seen from more which was made during photo session on March 03, 2007 !

Here are all such crew portraits at these ONE | TWO pages

Best regards,

That's confirmed Maciej, I have a whole collection of Soyuz back-up crews ;-)
Best one is the crewphoto with Lance Bass who was on the list for Soyuz TMA-001 mission, I remember that one as Belgium's 2nd astronaut flew that mission back in 2002
