Any suggestions on sources that offer a behind-the-scenes glimpse at why Sultan Salman Abdulaziz Al-Saud was selected to fly on the shuttle? |

Prior to the Challenger incident, firms or countries flying one of the main payloads of the mission, were allowed to have a payload specialist accompany it. I'm sure Al-Saud's background (royal family) didn't hurt in the selection process, and I believe he was also a pilot. |

He is a civilian/military pilot. See: A Prince in Space Chris. |

It would be interesting, what his job is currently. Is he married, how many children? Was he on any meetings since his mission? |

Hi Chris,Although it may not be what you are looking for (being more of the official, on-the-record reply), my interview with Prince Al-Saud in the March 2007 issue of "Spaceflight" touched on this subject. |

As always, the response of cSers is much appreciated. I always marvel at what a wonderful, collective repository of spaceflight knowledge is available on this site. The most thoughtful, or idle, question, always brings a flurry of different viewpoints and insider knowledge. For writers laboring in this field, cS is a very welcome resource. Thanks Robert. |
