I have a friend whose father suffers from the same type of heart fibrillation as Deke Slayton. Mind you, his attacks seem to coincide with chore time, but she was wondering if anybody here knew what combination of vitamins Deke Slayton took that (apparently) got him back on flight status. The family would really appreciate the info. |

I would caution that, even if information on Deke's vitamin regimen is discovered, your friend's father should discuss that sort of treatment with their doctor first. Heart fibrillations can have different causes, therefore treatment that works for one might not work for another...and, in fact, could do more harm than good.Anyway, just a friendly word of caution... |

A very good point - plus, I would imagine that medical knowledge and treatment has advanced considerably in the more than three decades since Deke's issues... |

Would you actually believe four decades? In fact 46 years now since he was dropped from what would have been Delta 7.Colin |

I was referring to the vitamin regime which is the subject of the thread, not referring to when he was dropped from flight status ten years earlier. He began the vitamin regimen in earnest in 1970, tests in late 1971 seemed to show it had worked, and he was restored to flight status in 1972. So we are only at 36 years... |

Naturally, the guy would have to discuss it with his doctor.By the way, if anybody is curious as to my absence, I had an accident. I wish I could say it was when I cracked up my bike trying to avoid a bunch of nuns, but the simple truth is that I tripped over my own big feet, fell, and got a bleed in my brain. A doctor remarked that from the position of the bleed, it was a miracle I could still talk. My mother said, "The real miracle is when he shuts up." Thanks, Mom. |

DUKE-Glad to see you back! It wasn't the same without you. Don't worry you'll be back on the bike scaring Nuns in no time. Tim |

I was wondering where you went. With the close call you had the last time, I thought you maybe were viewing the shuttle launches from the heavenly VIP seats.Good to see you back, Duke. Are they going to charge you for the crack in the sidewalk? |

The Dukester!Welcome back and good to hear you're feeling better. I don't know the answer to your question about vitamins. (Just popped by to see if any cSers had noticed a nice Francis French guest essay--with two nice pics, hat tip to Bruce Moody--on Cece Bibby, newly posted over on the DP's website. And what a pleasant surprise to see the Duke with a 2008 post!) No intention to hijack, only to say hi and godspeed on your new vitamin regimen! (I myself take lots of vitamin D and a good multi.) |
